In Dress Rehearsal we wash our face and prepare for our day in “Water song,” then in “French Onion Soup,” we experience the meditative ritual of cooking a family recipe, and the slow simmering of childhood memories that come with it. We explore, in Creek Crossing, compositions of painted stage backdrops through a world of contrasting shadows, while “Confrontation,” allows us to speak to the dead, the actors who have made it past the ultimate curtain call.

In Dress Rehearsal, we present our creative community with a collection of ruminations on the connections between art and performance. Like a cast of actors honing their craft in rehearsal, we have worked together to present you with this issue—immersing ourselves in the realm of creativity collected by our contributors. Meanwhile, an actor prepares.
