Submission Guidelines
The General Submissions window for Winter 2025: The Sky is Not Blue is now open. Our categories include, fiction, nonfiction, poetry, photography, and art. Deadline to Submit: July 4.
To submit, please send each piece as its own attachment to submitopenceilings@gmail.com. In the body of your email, include author/artist name, phone number, the title and genre of each piece, and whether this is a simultaneous submission.
When submitting multiple works, please attach each piece as its own document; however, collections should be submitted as one document.
When submitting a collection, please indicate in the body of your email whether you are willing to publish excerpts.
Do not include your name or any identifying information anywhere on your piece(s).
Please title your piece(s)/PDF as: genre_lastname_title.
Submitted work must be previously unpublished.
Anyone may submit to Open Ceilings, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender and gender expression, age, visible and non-visible disability, nationality, sexual orientation, citizenship status, veteran status, religious/non-religious, spiritual, or political beliefs, socio-economic class, status within or outside the university, or any of the other differences among people which have been excuses for misunderstanding, dissension or hatred. Foreign language submissions accepted with an English translation.

Prose (Fiction, Non-Fic)
We accept all forms of prose, including short fiction, creative nonfiction, scripts, and experimental fiction. Excerpts must be able to stand alone. Please indicate whether your prose piece is fiction, nonfiction, or drama. You may submit up to 3 pieces of prose, each not exceeding 6000 words. Please submit each piece as its own .doc or .docx file and as a PDF.
Poetry
We accept all forms of poetry. Excerpts from a longer work must be able to stand alone. You may submit up to 5 pieces of poetry. Please submit each piece as its own .doc or .docx file and as a PDF.
Artwork and Photography
We accept all forms of artwork and photography, including painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, collage, comics, graphic art, etc. Please submit artwork and photography as a high quality .png file (300 ppi minimum—600 ppi preferred). You may submit up to 10 art/photography pieces.
