Selected Poems by Francisco Navarro

“The Waiting”

It’s just another day
pushing
against the waves of my
past

Waiting
for a sign that
all our fears will disappear from
you and I.

I've lost track of time
caged in my mind
With the shadows of a world
Reminding me

That I’m just terrified
to become another wandering soul
in search of something
meaningful—

That I might never find
While sitting by the fireside
Under the bright lucid sky
I will wait for another day

So please come tell me:
What am I
supposed to
Feel?

“All I Know”

Strange is the night in which we sleep,
Dreams come and go while we drift.
Eyes towards the sky,
Searching for stars and instead,
I find obscuring clouds.

Promises we attempted to keep
Wave goodbye to me through the drowsy dusk.
What else is there to say,
All I know is that I must go.
Minutes before dawn whisper in my ear,

Tomorrow never knows If you’ll be here.
I realized the idea of you and everything of you,
Was a dream, a haze.
All I know is that
when my eyes drift to the sky and they meet the stars,

I can breathe again.
