Friendship Bracelet with Pearls

by Coralie Loon

an abalone blessing, all black and quilted,
the tethered parts of childhood, singed
and weathered together like
mis-matched beads of fog. I stand
in the mist, breath of a shell,
opening her soft hips to show me,
the pearly heart of womanhood.

My name is Coralie Loon and I’m a second year student at UC Davis studying English and Sociology. Other than writing poems, I love baking, playing fiddle, and hugging trees. I wrote this poem to celebrate femininity, uncertainty, and growing up.
