Editor | Editing Team

Editors prepare our written submissions for publication by participating in three stages of production: content editing, copyediting, and proofreading. During content editing, our editors work directly with contributors to discuss and revise content-related errors like dialogue, continuity, and narrative flow. Copyediting handles smaller, usually grammatical errors—at this stage, editors will frequently consult The Chicago Manual of Style and our house style guide. Proofreading requires each editor to review the entire publication for any final errors that escaped the first two stages. While these three stages comprise the main portion of an editor’s work, they will also be expected to review and vote on submissions and, on occasion, to edit non-literary pieces for the business, director, and acquisitions teams. Not only should this team have a strong grasp on craft knowledge and vocabulary, but it should be comfortable carrying out edits face-to-face and over the phone as polishing pieces for publication is an important and intimate service we provide to our writers.
